About Shibani
Shibani Sarkar is 14 years old and a rising sophomore at Ridge High School. Her Bharatnatyam training started when she was in grade 4 and from then on dance has become an integral part of her personality. Bharatnatyam has brought her close to her culture and taught her to communicate and work together in a group. Prior to Bharatnatyam, Shibani was training in Taekwondo and also earned a black belt by the time she was in Grade 6. This martial art lit the flame of discipline and focus.
Shibani has been singing for her school choir since 3rd grade and has a number of solo parts to her credit and has been one of the winners in the Westminister Conservatory Scholarship Competition where she currently takes voice lessons. She loves to sing in and out of school, and I think that song in her heart makes her feet dance. Singing has brought her close to people who share the same interests. Shibani is active in the drama club at high school and has been involved in two productions so far.
During the pandemic, she took on the hobby of baking and turned this hobby into a way of helping people. She has been selling cakes, cupcakes, and baked goods to people in the community, and the money from these orders was given to local charities which were involved in helping people affected by the pandemic. Charity truly begins at home!
